There are four considerations in choosing an On-The-Job Training company according to Human Resource and Operation Management (HROM) students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM): Exposure to different facets, stipends, location, and office environment. Exposure to different facets pertains to the capability of the company to offer various programs. In fact, not all the companies can offer various facets due to its scale. This also indicates that students may find it hard to find a company that will offer a stipend that would help their financial needs. That is why, finding a location-wise company will maximize the financial aspect and time of the students. And the last consideration must be the workplace environment; this will serve as the basis in producing an ideal workplace.
According to HROM Students of PLM, exposure is the most vital. However, this shall be inclined to the chosen course— to have a practical application of theories and knowledge that they have learned during the study. Because exposure will serve as the head start in building their dream. Having different exposures is a make or break process which affects the decision whether to continue pursuing the work from the chosen course or not. This will also ensure that they are capable of growing by assessing the type of work.
One of the playing aspects in pursuing the dream is the financial capability. HROM students of PLM stated that stipend must be the second consideration when choosing a company. This will help to cater their basic costs which lead to the reduction of mental disturbance. Furthermore, the location of the workplace must also be considered as this helps in the maximization of time and budget. Travel time affects the mental health of the employee. In fact, staff with longer commutes have a 33% risk of depression than the counterpart Zeelo LTD., (2023).
HROM students stated that professionalism is the key in case of a troubling working environment. That is why, they put it as the least priority compared to exposure, stipend, and location. However, they emphasized that having a good working environment will increase their willingness to work beyond the expectation. This could help them to finish their task whole-heartedly, which leads to a good status of their mental health. They added that having a good working environment can foster growth and good communication— which leads to a productive workplace.
Furthermore, according to graduating students the incoming Internship students must consider the time constraints and availability of documents in choosing the right company. Because it helps in reduction of mental burden from academic demands. This could also help to easily accumulate a total of 600 hrs; which is needed to get a flat 1 grade.
In the end, we cannot deny the fact that administrative work without enough stimulation is really mundane. It may lead to pursuing another interest. According to HROM Students, exposure to different facets must be one of the company’s offers. Thus learning opportunity is the most vital factor, it produces the students’ curiosity and concrete personal interest. They added that the first company will formulate the initial standards in the workplace. This includes the ideal salary, bonus, workplace environment, location, and exposure. Having this initial knowledge, students may have clear and concrete visions, goals, and objectives.
